New York Times admits caption error

The Associated Press photo and erroneous caption that appeared in the New York Times Sept. 30.

The Associated Press, New York Times, and many other papers in the United States recently ran a photo of an Israeli soldier allegedly standing over a bloodied Palestinian. The photo was entirely incorrect; the victim in the photo was Tuvia Grossman, a Jewish student from Chicago, who had been beaten by Palestinians.

The Times has since run a correction which can be seen at http://www.nytimes.com/2000/10/04/
